Jersey Care

Beyond just their monetary value, a good kit has sentimental, uniting and just
all-around more meaningful value than a few dollar signs. This means you have to take care of it. And there are, in fact, right and wrong ways to do so.
Here’s some tips form on jersey and apparel care.

Should I just throw my new jersey with badges and patches in the laundry machine and not think twice? No.

But before we start shouting from our soap box, always check the washing
instructions on your jerseys and apparel for any special care instructions.

Most apparel includes specific instructions that should be followed closely to minimize stress to the fabric. Your clothes will quite literally last for years when washing directions are followed correctly.

If you can’t find specific instructions, we do have a few standard tips. The abbreviated version is this: For the absolute top-drawer care for your hard-earned, prized jersey, we recommend handwashing with a mild detergent and air drying. But there’s more to it than just that.

In the washer:

Most sports apparel will come under minimal to no fading if you give it a
cold-water wash rather than any other wash setting. Consider keeping it cool
in there.

To better protect badges, crests and other printed or heat-applied logos during washing, turn the apparel inside out before starting the load. You don’t want the good stuff falling off your kit.

In the dryer:

Many manufacturer instructions recommend Tumble Dry Low, but you can
make your apparel last even longer with a Gentle, Delicate or even lower setting.

Once it’s done, you’re better off hanging or laying out your apparel to dry since the heat and agitation from tumble dryers can shrink fabric and damage applications. Most lightweight sports apparel dries very quickly with hang drying.

Do not iron logos and patches. The intense heat can scorch the fabric and
destroy the applications on your apparel.
